Keyla's Kindergarten Prep is a trilingual school, which was developed in order to meet the educational demands of today's globally interconnected society. We live in a competitive multicultural world, where business is interconnected across continents and languages. It is the purpose of Keyla's Kindergarten Prep to prepare children who can meet these demands, through social and academic development. We use language and Project-based learning, as well as play to make sure that your children develop into avid team players, who have solution-oriented thinking. Additionally, our school has an international focus as each month we will be learning about a different country and its culture. The children will learn to love the world and everything that makes it so special!
We teach children to understand and learn in 3 important languages--Spanish, French and English. There is an indefinite amount of research that explains the benefits of learning more than one language. The research explains how beneficial it is for children to learn languages at a young age, while their brains are malleable and more apt to learn several languages. Other added advantages to being multilingual include improved problem solving skills, advanced abilities to switch between tasks, strong focus skills, and overall healthier brains that are more engaged. Please view this TED lesson for further information.
Project-based learning allows children to learn by doing, the children learn an array of valuable skills through this process. These include teamwork, problem-solving, creativeness and entrepreneurship. Most importantly, your children will learn foundational math skills, which will develop their number sense, along with phonics and literacy. There are weekly lessons offered in chess, art, music, technology, meditation, yoga and cooking. The greatest part of all of this is that instruction takes place in a small setting, with up to 8 students and 1 teacher, each of the children will greatly benefit from their individualized instruction plans. They will love their diverse days full of learning, discovery and adventures!
At Keyla's Kindergarten Prep we focus on project-based learning and individualized education plans for your child. Here your children develop their existing knowledge, while learning 3 different languages--English, Spanish and French!
Project-Based learning is a great tool that allows children to learn by doing. It has many advantages, as it teaches children how to work on teams, how to problem-solve and how to be creative. It is an amazing way for children to expand their knowledge while learning from their peers and teacher.
Math: students will be using manipulatives to learn the meaning of numbers. They will learn how to accurately count up 100 and have one-to-one correspondence. Students will learn how to solve word problems, sort, name shapes and more!
Literacy: there will be a strong focus in phonics, knowing letter sounds and letter teams, as well as sight words. We will begin to read leveled books as a class, practice storytelling, explore great books and more!
Languages: students will familiarize themselves will all of the items in the classroom, i.e: coloring pencils, books, shelves, shapes, tables, etc. in all 3 languages. Consequently, we will focus on a language each day, and will have a language focused activity on that day.
Chess: students will learn the function of each piece and how to use it. The students will play chess as a class and then in pairs to practice what they have learned throughout each lesson, to reinforce the lessons they will also play as a class, with a class-size chess set.
Technology: students will learn basic computer skills, including, how to use it, what do icons mean, how to use the internet to search for information, and the basic use of powerpoint and words.
Art: students will learn how to make colors, draw, and use paint. They will create art projects as a class as well as individually.
Music: Music is offered once a week!
Yoga & meditation: Children's yoga and meditation is offered.

We offer full days in a small setting with up to 8 children and 1 teacher and 1 aide. We focus on each language on different days throughout the week. The children are surrounded by all languages within the classroom everyday. Our busy schedule includes math, reading, writing, a language based activity, chess, technology, yoga, meditation, art, as well as, outdoor activities and play time. We also work on longterm project-based learning projects, so that the children can learn through each of their individual experiences.
